Next Steps Membership Class
What does being a church member mean?
God
created us to live in community and fellowship is essential for
personal and spiritual growth. Church membership, in a very real sense,
is a covenant relationship. It is an agreement to take responsibility
for one another in faith much like a loving family. It represents
mutual caring and building up of the faith community for the purposes
the Kingdom of God with membership, we live more deeply into the joys
and responsibilities of being Jesus’ Body, The Church.
How do I become a member?
Email Joe@mwpcusa.org with your request to join a Next Steps class. To be a
member at Markham Woods Presbyterian Church, all you need to do is
believe and profess that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. The Next
Steps class, held several times a year on Sunday mornings, prepares you
for, and leads to, formal membership in Markham Woods
The
course is designed to help you learn about and experience the Markham
Woods Community. It’s a great way to make some friends, learn some
basics about faith in a non-threatening atmosphere, and be exposed to
the life-changing opportunities at our church.
We explore
our vision statement as our anchor and core values, our mission, who we
are, and what you and can expect from being a part of our fellowship!
We also look at the history of the church, our theology, our
representative government, and the Sacraments. The course concludes
with you being formally received into membership by the Elders of
Markham Woods.
What if I was/am a member of a different church?
When you
formally join the membership, we will notify the church which holds your
membership. Memberships can be transferred, however, to develop
community and build relationships, we encourage everyone seeking
membership to attend the Next Steps class.
We
look forward to these times together as we can really get to know one
another. These real and growing relationships are just one of the key
aspects of our uniqueness at Markham Woods.
