WHAT IS ALPHA?

The Alpha course is open to everyone interested in discovering what Christianity is about. It’s a place where people can come and relax, eat, share thoughts and explore the meaning of life.

HOW ALPHA WORKS

Alpha courses are based around small groups of up to ten people, led by one or two hosts whose role is to facilitate and encourage discussion. Each course varies in size and can have any number of small groups.

WHO IS ALPHA FOR?

Whether you grew up a Christian or never set foot in Church, whether you are eighteen or eighty, whether you raise kids or raise cattle... Alpha is for everyone who wants to explore life's big questions.

WHY ATTEND THE ALPHA COURSE?

Guests come on the Alpha course for many different reasons; some want to investigate whether God exists and some have questions they’d like to discuss. Many guests have never been to church and others may have attended church but feel they have never had a personal understanding of the Christian faith.

ALPHA COURSE WEEKLY FORMAT

The Alpha course usually lasts for ten weeks, with a day or weekend retreat in the middle, often held here at MWPC. Each session begins with a dinner, then a short video by Nicky Gumble looking at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of discussion, when guests can ask questions and contribute their opinions. Alpha is typically held on Tuesday evenings, with childcare provided.

MWPC also offers the ALPHA Marriage Course!

What is The Marriage Course?

The Marriage Course was developed in 1996 by Nicky and Sila Lee (authors of The Marriage Book) for couples looking for practical support to strengthen their relationship.

Over seven sessions, the course will help you to:

  • Understand each other’s needs
  • Communicate more effectively
  • Grow closer by learning methods to resolve conflict
  • Recover from the ways you may have hurt each other
  • Recognize how your upbringing affects your relationship
  • Improve relationships with parents and in-laws
  • Develop greater sexual intimacy
  • Discover each other’s "love language" and much, much more....

Who is it for?

The Marriage Course is for couples who are in a married or cohabiting relationship and seeking to strengthen their relationship. Some couples take the course to invest in their relationship, others need more urgent help. Either way, the course offers a lifetime of practical ideas and tools to help keep your relationship strong. Couples with any numbers of years, or lack thereof, of marriage can benefit from the course!

The Marriage Course is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples with or without a church background.

What can we expect?

On The Marriage Course, you are seated at your own table for two. Each session consists of food and/or drink, a practical talk and a time for private discussion between you and your partner.

Background music ensures that you can chat in complete privacy. You never share anything about your relationship with anyone other than your partner.

For more information, contact Chris Leinenkugel cleinenkugel@mwpcusa.org or the church office. Courses are offered throughout the year, according to interest.
