In addition to the myriad of programs MWPC members and the Mission Committee support, the Mission Committee hosts the highly competitive MWPC Annual Chili Cook-off and the popular BBQ and Bingo dinner in the fall.

Here’s a list of the projects/missions supported by MWPC both financially and with volunteers:

Domestic and International Missionaries:

Dr. Laura Layer and the Philadelphia Chapter of Medical Campus Outreach.

Missionaries Mark Adams and Miriam Maldonado Escobar serving at the US-Mexico border in Agua Prieta Mexico.

Local Missions

MWPC provides financial support and volunteers for:

The Sharing Center - and their programs (Food Pantry, Bless our Soles shoes for children program, Financial Assistance, Thrift Store, and the Oasis Homeless Walk-in Center providing respite and hygiene services.

Rescue Outreach – the only emergency shelter in Seminole County. It provides services to the homeless and to those who are on the brink of becoming homeless with a men’s and a women’s shelter, both in Sanford.

Grace ‘n Grits - a meal program in Sanford that provides meals to the working poor as well as the homeless every Wednesday.

Love Missions - support the organization that rescues trafficked persons by assembling Shoe Boxes of Love, dropping off toiletries to be assembled in blessing bags, and sew bags to donate to help those rescued.   

Salvation Army Bell Ringers – a December holiday tradition.

Angel Tree - participation means receiving names of underprivileged, homeless and foster children in our area through the Friends of Abused Children in Seminole County and providing gifts for them. MWPC has been a banner participant for the past 15 years. This past year we donated gifts for 100 names to the cause.

Turkey Drive  - (in support of Rescue Outreach). We’re talking tonnage of turkeys!

Adult Mission Trips

Periodically, MWPC members and friends go to Haiti to provide services to the seminary, agricultural projects, orphanage, and medical clinic supported by Thousand Hills Ministry. 

Various Presbytery and PC(USA) programs including: PATH (2 cents a meal collected the first Sunday of the month and at community dinners) and Special Offerings (the One Great Hour of Sharing;  Pentecost offering supporting at risk children, youth and young adults;  Peace and Global Witness offering  supporting ministries of reconciliation and peace; and the Christmas Joy offering providing financial assistance to Presbyterian church workers and to programs promoting education for communities of color and racial equity. Finally, the PC(USA)’s programs for disaster assistance and worldwide ministry are supported by the gifts of the congregation.
